With each new development we build, and each large contract we award, there is an agreement in place that the contractor allocates funding for community projects.

Last year, Encon funded a youth group in Trowbridge, through their contract agreement on the St John’s College development in Rumney.

Ministry of Life ran Trowbridge Beatz for six weeks in the winter, giving young people in the area somewhere safe to go and socialise together.

The group came about following concerns by local councillors that there is very little youth provision in Trowbridge. This project demonstrated that positive engagement is possible when suitable activities are offered, with up to 19 people attending each week.

With £2,225 of grant funding from Encon, the project was able to provide a clear arts and creative outlet within the community, giving young people something constructive to do and helping reduce the likelihood of anti-social behaviour and street-based activity. It has also helped build confidence, teamwork and respect among the participants.

Adeel Hasan Engagement Manager at Encon Construction said:

“We were very pleased to support the Trowbridge Beatz youth project through our work at St John’s College. The programme has clearly provided a safe, creative and positive space for young people, helping them to build confidence, develop new skills and engage constructively with their local community. The strong levels of participation demonstrate the real value of investing in youth provision, and we are proud that Encon Construction has been able to play a part in making this project possible.”

Following the popularity of these sessions, the group has been awarded funding to run further dates.
