Life during the pandemic has been tough for many of us. In addition to health concerns, we also had to navigate financial worries, too. Did you struggle to pay your rent during Covid and you’re now in rent arrears? The Welsh Assembly Government have recently announced changes to the Tenancy Hardship Grant

  • Have your rent arrears accrued between 1st March 2020 and 31st December 2021?
  • Did you struggle to pay rent, or pay rent arrears, as a result of Covid?
  • Were you not entitled to housing benefits, or Universal Credit Housing Cost payments, when the arrears built up?
  • Are you happy to liaise with the Welfare Liaison Team at Cardiff Council?

If you weren’t in receipt of housing related benefits throughout the pandemic, but you struggled to pay rent and fell into arrears, you’re encouraged to apply for the Tenancy Hardship Grant

If you lost your job during Covid, or experienced a significant income decrease when the Universal Credit uplift was removed, you may be eligible to apply for the Tenancy Hardship Grant.

You can apply for the Tenancy Hardship Grant  via the Cardiff Council website.

If you’re not sure whether you’re eligible to apply, our Money Advice Team are here to help. Please get in touch with any queries.
