Today we see the launch of fourteen, brand new apartments next to our existing Ffordd Nowell development.

This project began in May 2020 using a small parcel of unused land which sits next to our existing Ffordd Nowell properties. With a design produced by Dennis Hellyar Architects, our nominated contractor Holbrook Homes commenced works shortly after.

Holbrook Homes did an incredible job of making sure these homes were delivered as quickly as possible. Despite the challenges of a global pandemic, there was only a minor delay in the completion deadline.

“We are delighted to see these new homes handover providing much needed high quality, affordable accommodation.  Housing demand continues to out-strip supply, and with the challenges presented by the pandemic over the last 18 months, we hope that the new residents will be able to prosper and flourish in their new homes.  Thanks to all at CCHA and the wider project team who made this happen, and also to our partners at Cardiff Council, Welsh Government and our development contractor Holbrook Homes.”

The new developments harmonise perfectly with our existing Ffordd Nowell homes. In line with our decarbonisation strategy, they include solar panels and electric heating. As a result, they have an excellent energy efficiency rating of 81 or EPC B. EPC ratings are scored out of 100 – the higher the rating, the more energy efficient a home is, and the lower the fuel bills paid by tenants.

Huge thanks to all involved in this development. Everyone involved in this project have worked hard to create beautiful homes that will serve future tenants for years to come. We couldn’t be happier with the results!

“It has been a pleasure to work in partnership with Cardiff Community Housing Association to deliver fourteen apartments at Cwrt Ffordd Nowell.

The development was particularly challenging, located at the rear of an existing residential development and with limited working space.  We opted to construct the apartments utilising timber frame, clad in a facing brick to match the existing development. This allowed us to limit disruption to existing residents and nearby businesses. We have delivered the apartments in just over a year, balancing the need for housing with the restrictions of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The apartments also benefit from solar panels and electric heating to provide comfortable homes with low energy consumption.

Whilst the project has been challenging, we are extremely proud of the development and delivery programme/costs and look forward to working in partnership with Cardiff Community Housing Association on future projects.“
