Anchalee Sawisit, 22, is currently doing a placement as a Property Support Assistant as part of our Get into Housing programme, which will see her do 16 weeks of paid work experience with the Asset Management and Decarbonisation team.

Get into Housing is an initiative by housing associations including CCHA, Taff Housing, Cadwyn, Hafod, United Welsh, Linc Cymru and Wales and West Housing. The project aims to build a more diverse and inclusive workforce within the social housing sector, by offering training, mentoring and paid work experience to applicants from an ethnically diverse background.

My boyfriend's mum, Marion, had taken part in the previous cohort of the programme, and was always talking about the benefits and the opportunities it had given her. I had just graduated from UWE Bristol where I’d been studying Real Estate when applications opened again, so Marion told me about it and passed contact details on. I sent Afshan, the Project Manager, my CV then it all happened really quickly from there. I had an interview and started my role with CCHA just before Christmas. My role as Property Support Coordinator means I get to spend time out and about with the surveyors, working on the damp and mould programme, booking in visits and keeping the system up to date. I’m really enjoying the role, gaining knowledge and experience from the other surveyors and getting career advice which has been great as the team have all come into the role via different routes I’d love a job working with properties, but I also want it to be the right job for me. I've really enjoyed working in social housing, so a role as a surveyor with a housing association would be ideal. I’ve already had one interview so I’m hopeful that this experience will lead to more and a successful position at the end.
