Why Kickstart?

The Kickstart scheme is a fantastic opportunity for people aged 16 – 24 to…

  • gain valuable skills that provide a huge boost to your CV;
  • be given a real opportunity to understand and develop your talents further;
  • explore a career in housing.

Kickstart at CCHA means support your professional development and investing in you. We’ll provide training opportunities to make the most of your time here. These six months with us will be rich in learning, experience, and opportunities. As a result, this will allow you to kickstart your career and be a springboard into long-term employment, education, or training.

How to Apply

The only way to apply for a Kickstart role with us is by speaking to your Job Centre Work Coach.

You need to be claiming universal credit, and aged between 16 – 24.

You can check out our available Kickstart roles here, or following us on social media

What to Expect

You will have access to employability skills sessions, and bespoke training based on your specific needs. Additionally, you’ll also have access to resilience and confidence building sessions. You’ll have a one-to-one employability mentor who will create a personal development plan of goals to guide your time with us. They will also help you apply for jobs, support you with entering further education, or applying for apprenticeships. Wherever you see yourself in the future, we want to help you get there.

Let’s be honest, money matters. We’re a living wage employer. This means that what you earn at CCHA is the calculated amount needed to cover your living costs. It also makes allowance for those unexpected payments, too (repairing cars, covering dentist costs, higher than expected utility bills, etc.)

You’ll be working 25 hours a week, for six months. During this time, you’ll have the chance to…

  • gain or enhance your office administration skills including communication via phone, email, and online;
  • experience first-hand the roles and responsibilities of different functions of a Housing Association;
  • learn and develop ICT skills that will enable you to confidently access and use a range of IT packages (e.g. Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook);
  • be part of our #OneTeam, assisting all departments across our organisation and communicating effectively with both internal and external customers;
  • develop team working skills, whilst we support you in using your own initiative to get tasks done and within given deadlines;
  • …and much more.

Whilst we are currently working from home, we’ll provide all the necessary equipment if it’s needed. When you are required to enter the office, we have strict health and safety processes in place to keep you safe (e.g. social distancing, hand sanitising stations, thorough cleaning routines, etc.)

How to Prepare
  • Read about the role and make sure it’s the right one for you!
    It’s always best to double check the job roles and responsibilities to make sure that it’s something you want to do first. Passion for a job is a great driving force and we want you to love working with us!
  • If you need some interview tips, check out the Careers Wales website
    Interviews can feel really scary but you don’t need to worry. We’re not here to judge you, we’re here to get to know you better and make sure the job you’re applying for will be one you can really flourish in. An interview is a really good opportunity to get to know us, as well as us getting to know you. If wearing a suit and tie will make you feel more confident, go for it! But, if being suited and booted really isn’t your thing, feel free to wear your favourite hoody and comfy jeans. We want you to feel comfortable and confident on the day of the interview because being yourself is your super power! On that note, we’re not expecting you to have every skill listed on the job description, we just want you to have the energy and drive to try your best.
